How Important is the
Bingo Card?
One of the greatest things about Bingo is that
every Bingo Card has the potential to win. Well, at least that’s
true in theory. If you look critically at the Bingo Card, you’ll
find that there are similar properties shared by each and every Bingo
Card.
The Bingo Card consists of 25 squares, divided into five rows. Each
square has a number and there’s a corresponding number in some
sort of container. The “caller” pulls numbers at random
from that container and the players cover the number (if it appears)
on their card. The goal, naturally, is to cover up some predetermined
pattern. In traditional Bingo, you win if you cover a straight line
of five squares, vertically, horizontally or diagonally.
If you look at it statistically, the numbers are pulled at random
by the caller (or sometimes by his assistant). If there’s nothing
fishy going on, every number has an equal chance of being called.
That means that every card has an equal chance of wining. Again,
that’s the theory but you’ll never convince some avid
Bingo enthusiasts of that.
Bingo players are sometimes so caught up in their idea that a particular
Bingo Card or group of Bingo Cards are lucky that they want to be
sure they have that card or group of cards when they play. Sound
incredible? Actually, some Bingo halls or Bingo sponsors will agree
to reserve certain Bingo Cards for a player. That’s how certain
some players are that a particular Bingo Card has a better than average
chance of winning.
While some may call it silly or superstitious, there’s no
doubt that a great deal of the winning at Bingo is sheer luck. If
you put any stock in Lady Luck, Goof Fortune or any other point that
will increase your luck, it’s no wonder that some people want
a particular Bingo Card. And if they win, it’ll no doubt be
attributed to their skill at picking the winning Bingo Card.
